Precision under Pressure: Turning a Regulatory Headache into an Automated Watchtower
A wealth management firm faced a high-stakes challenge. Every time a client’s details changed, they had exactly 14 days to register those updates with the regulator. With thousands of clients and dozens of moving variables, identifying which specific fields had changed was like looking for a needle in a haystack, every single day. It was a stressful, manual process that consumed a full-time salary just to keep the “compliance clock” from running out.
I wanted to build a system that never sleeps. Instead of having colleagues trying to look for changes, I designed a specialised ‘digital ledger’ that monitors the data’s flow. The goal was to create a trail that automatically flags only the relevant changes, ensuring the team only spends time on what actually matters.
I engineered a custom Transactional Slowly Changing Dimension (SCD) structure. Think of it as a time-machine for data. The system takes a snapshot of the data every 24 hours and compares it to the day before. As soon as a regulatory-critical field changes, the system archives the old info, sets the new info is set as the new live data and pings the team with an instant alert. This also keeps history of every change and when it happened.
– 90% Less Manual work. We took the whole concept of looking for any changes out of the process, reducing the manual effort by 90%.
– €30k reinvested. By eliminating a full year of menial administrative labour, the company saved roughly €30,000 annually, allowing that human talent to be redeployed to higher-value tasks.
– 85% Faster Response. The team no longer worries about the 14-day window. They are alerted the moment a change occurs, keeping the firm 100% compliant and stress-free.
